CANAWAY FLEMING ARCHITECTS

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Working in collaboration with Jestico + Whiles, Canaway Fleming carried out feasibility studies and concept design for the internal alteration, modernisation and remodelling of the world famous Fortnum & Mason department store in Piccadilly, London.

The proposals included for the refurbishment of 60,000 sqft of retail space and a restaurant. Working closely with English Heritage and conservation groups, proposals included for the introduction of a new central atrium and staircase linking four floors of retail space and introducing natural daylight into the heart of the building.

The new staircase and atrium were conceived as a finely crafted modern timber and glass intervention befitting the historic building yet providing a modern and distinctive new identity for Fortnum & Mason.
