Located in the Haymarket conservation area in the London Borough of Westminster, 9 Orange Street provided a unique design challenge for the conversion of offices to residential use at due to its relationship with the historic Harold Pinter Theatre and Burberry Building. 9 Orange Street is partially occupied by the theatre and is used for dressing rooms and the technical crew rooms linked to the auditorium in the adjacent theatre.
The remainder of the building is leased as office space. The proposals are for an extensive redesign of the building using the existing structure while maintaining the operational uses required for the theatre. The building would be re-clad in natural dressed stone and concrete detailing with new openings providing good quality natural daylight to the modern apartments. The new stone façade provides a homogenous and uncluttered appearance to the building reinforcing the corner of the urban block.
